The oldest working lighthouse on the South African coastline. Distinctively marked with bold red and white candy stripes. Originally, two oil lanterns warned ships of the treacherous Cape coastline. It was electrified in 1829. Nowadays a warning light with 850 000 candle power with a visibility 25 nautical miles to sea is used.
