Local and international guests swarm to the Franschhoek region to sample haute cuisine and fine wines. Franschhoek has an array of award winning restaurants, of which, The Tasting Room is South Africa's most lauded. Visitors book months in advance to sample Executive Chef, Margot Janse's innovative flavour combinations. African inspired dishes include potjie bread (tripod baked) with caramelised butter, Klein Karoo waterbuck loin with sorghum, and coconut ice cream. The latter is cocooned in a coconut sugar ball which, when warm caramel sauce is poured over it, splinters to reveal a layer of macadamia nuts. Her food reflects her belief that memorable dishes should have elements of surprise and nostalgia.
